UCOM - Universal Communications Multiplexer
The Universal Communications Multiplexer, UCOM, is utilized for RS-485 “star” configurations. The UCOM operates “downstream” from the UIP when a U2Boards Universal Smart Power Supply is not utilized. Each RS-485 input and output is isolated. The UCOM communicates with other members of the U2 Family via 2 RS-485 ports. UCOM modules connect to UIPs and UICs in either a bus or star configuration. UCOM modules can be installed up to 4,000 feet from the host UIP. Distances can be extended by utilizing approved fiber optic cable and transceivers.
Additional UCOM product features:
- 2 RS-485 inbound communication connections for upstream communication to UIPs and downstream communication to UIC or UIO modules
- Tri-color LEDs show communication status
- 8 connections with tri-color LEDs for downstream communication to UIC or UIO boards
- 8 RJ45 ports for RS-485 outboard communication for daisy chaining one unit to the next
- EOL (end of line) termination resistor is provided for each port to satisfy RS-485 multi-drop requirements
